Bo'ness – or Borrowstounness – is a former port and industrial town on the south of the River Forth, two miles north of Linlithgow and eight miles east of Falkirk. The area is steeped in history – the Antonine Wall reached the Forth just east of Bo'ness, and there is a Roman fort on the Kinneil Estate, where James Watt worked on his steam engine. Trade from Holland and France and industries including salt–panning, mining, and ship-building made Bo'ness a wealthy burgh. Today Bo'ness is a proud community of around 14,250 people and s1boness.com has been developed to allow residents share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.

Welcome to s1bo'ness

Welcome to s1bo'ness – a new type of community website which puts you in control.

s1bo'ness is a platform for local people to tell each other what's happening in the village.

You can talk about local issues, post pictures and video, place free small ads, announce events, or just show off something you think is interesting.

Unlike traditional media, we’re not about reporting news. Nobody knows better about what’s going on in Bo'ness than the people who live there – and s1bo'ness is your space to tell each other all about it.

Bands can announce concerts, football teams can post their fixtures and results, Scout groups can announce jumble sales, photographers can show everyone their pictures, and amateur historians can talk about the past.

You can raise a petition, organise a meeting or sell your fridge - the format is very flexible, and it will be completely free.

If you’re involved in a local group, business or organisation, you can even set up a mini-site of your own within s1bo'ness. Even if you already have a website, a mini-site on s1bo'ness is likely to attract a broader range of people, and you can link to your existing site from it.

This new breed of community websites is the work of s1, the online division of Herald & Times Group, and we'll use our experience with setting up quality websites to make sure s1bo'ness looks good, works well, and isn't allowed to slowly die off, like so many community sites do.

But in order for s1bo'ness to work, we need to hand it over to you. We'll moderate the site for legal reasons - just to avoid defamation and indecency, which means there will be a short delay between posting and publishing - but there's absolutely no point in us deciding what's interesting to the people of Bo'ness.

We're happy to help, advise and make things work, but s1bo'ness is for Bo'ness people to do with as they please.

It will always be free to post content to s1bo'ness. Local businesses will eventually also be offered the opportunity to advertise.

What are you waiting for? Sign in and get posting!
